Undring Studio was founded in 2026 by designer Morgan McCarty in Camden, Maine. All pieces are inspired by the nuances of nature and place and made in-house by hand, using sterling silver, glass, and stone. I believe jewelry, like your life, should strive toward simplicity and be full of wonder.
About the designer
Though I was born in Oslo, Norway, I grew up across the U.S. and spent a significant portion of my childhood summers on, in, and around the lakes of northeast New York and the beaches of southern Maine and southern California. As an adult, I lived across the mountains of Colorado and Montana, and I prioritized traveling and being in nature. I now live among the forests, mountains, and beaches of coastal midcoast Maine.
Whether a desert plateau, mountain range, coastal beach, or distinct urban setting, I am completely fascinated by the concept of place and the varied materials and conditions by which a place is defined. The colors of the landscape, how the light plays with water or plants, the variance of seasons, the flora and fauna, and the intangible "energy" of a place all feed into my work.
I started making jewelry because I wasn't able to find pieces that felt organic, joyful, and refined without being either too loud or too austere. I also have specific tastes for form, color, weight, and tactility, informed by Californian and American West sensibilities, Scandinavian and alpine design, and American East Coast integrity and polish — and I wanted to bring those influences to life in approachable, mostly one-of-a-kind pieces that can be worn all the time.
I am a mostly self-taught designer, lapidary artist, and metalsmith, and I source my stones, metals, and materials as responsibly and transparently as I can.
Undring pieces are meant to wander with you, feel good to the touch, carry just the right amount of weight, and make you feel a little bit more wonderful while wearing them

About the name, Undring Studio
When I first started thinking about names for this studio, I wanted a name that describes the wonder I experience almost daily for what are often everyday or ordinary things: like finding a really good rock on the beach; the way water and light play and dance; finding a beautiful color in nature or a human-made setting; seeing something silly my dog does; feeling inspired by a detail in a woodworking piece my husband is working on; or even just seeing random things on our daily walks.
I also wanted a name that felt a little foreign and a little familiar — something that invokes a little wonderful curiosity in anyone who comes across it.
Undring is a Norwegian word describing a contemplative form of wonder, and also a kind of love. It is an invitation to pause, to contemplate something wonderful, to be astonished, to question, to see.
To me, to have undring for this moment and all moments, and for our connection to them along with other people, places, and things, is to have love for it all.
Under the banner of Undring, I aim to make pieces that call out to you, that catch your eye and your soul, that tug on something inside you and invite you to stop and wonder a little bit more about it, how it feels, and how you feel with it.
